19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

Success also signifies he has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to get a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour title, took control to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
